Let’s talk my current reads for the month of March! I discussed this a bit on my Twitch livestream that I wanted to start a “book club” with you guys and talk about what we’d recommend, what we’re loving and what has been on our must read lists! To set this up, these are the books I’m currently working on. Yes, I do read multiple books at a time, so I’ll be listing all those below. Also, I’ll try my best to update this page as I finish and I’ll do a little summary of my overall thoughts! Let’s begin, shall we?
Let’s get to the book breakdown…
Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens
Status: Completed!
Oh my, where do I begin? Admittedly, I had no idea what this book was about. I saw this was highly-rated when I was making my book wish list back in December, and ever since then, I couldn’t get my mind off of it. I finally bit the bullet and picked it up and I’m so happy I did! You guys… I finished this book in two sittings. This was one of those books I couldn’t set down. If you’re a fan of descriptive and expressive novels, this has you written all over it. Not only is the way Delia Owens writes beautiful, but I love the how the timeline of this story is written. It keeps the book interesting and really makes it a page turner! Throughout the story, you really do fall in love with the characters and identify with each of them in a different way. I can’t recommend this book enough! This was one of those books I was genuinely disappointed when it ended.
The Lost City of the Monkey God by Douglas Preston
Status: Still working on…
Not going to lie, I’ve been working on this book for a couple of months. What first drew me to this novel was the author, himself. I’ve read a couple Douglas Preston books and really enjoyed them (the most recent book I’ve read by him was The Monster of Florence, which I really liked!). I’m a big fan of true-crime, mysteries, and lore so naturally, I wanted to check this book out. Like I said, I’ve been working on this book for a bit because I find it somewhat tedious to read. I also started this book when I didn’t have a ton of time to sit down and focus on it so part of me wants to start over. The content, itself, is super interesting, but I just need to find time to actually analyze and read it. I don’t know… maybe it’s a personal quirk of mine when it comes to reading books of this genre. I like to absorb all this little details and nuances!
What I Know for Sure by Oprah Winfrey
Status: Completed!
I was recommended this book by a dear friend and picked up a used copy from Amazon (I think I only paid a couple bucks! Yay for used books!). This was a very quick and easy read. I do have to say, I did have some eye roll moments because it’s hard to take advice from a very wealthy and influential person (ahem, not relatable). However, there were some good reminders in the book and I liked how each of the entries contained individual and unique points.
What books are you currently reading? I picked up a bunch of books for the month of April, so I’ll update you at the beginning of the month!
xoxo,
Morgan
